Shri Hanuman Chalisa was written by the great poet Goswami Tulsidas Ji. It is written in the Awadhi language.
It is said, reciting Shri Hanuman Chalisa 3 times, 7 times, 11 times, 21 times, 51 times or 108 times in a day will end your sorrows.
Interesting Facts About Hanuman Chalisa
- A Chalisa is a collection of 40 Chaupai which is sung by Bhakt to praise the deed of deity with devotion.
- Hanuman Chalisa was composed by Goswami Tulsi Das in the 16th century in the devotion of Hanuman Ji in a prison.
- Tulsidas is acclaimed to be the reincarnation of Valmiki who composed the Ramayana. It is thus believed that the Hanuman Chalisa is written virtually by the same person who wrote Ramayana, although the two were written centuries apart from each other.
- Some accounts claim that Tulsidas was imprisoned by Akbar in Fatehpur Sikri as Akbar asked Tulsi Das to make him see Rama by performing a miracle. Tulsi Das denied it and said, Rama, can only be seen by true devotion. After that Akbar put Tulsidas in a prison.
- It is also claimed that, in the prison, Tulsidas created Hanuman Chalisa and chanted it for forty days, and on the 40th day, suddenly an army of monkeys descended upon the town and wreaked havoc in all corners of Fatehpur Sikri, entering each home and Akbar’s harem, scratching people and throwing bricks from ramparts.
- Hanuman Chalisa consists of 2 Doha (couplets) in the beginning, then 40 Chaupayi, and one couplet at the end.
- It is believed that chanting Hanuman Chalisa removes negative vibrations. Many couplets in the Hanuman Chalisa are said to bring in the divine wisdom of Hanuman to his devotees and equip them to stay safe from negative energies and thoughts.
- It is claimed that Hanuman Chalisa mentions the exact distance between the earth and the sun.
